Police remand report says accused filmed and circulated seven videos of Deepak.

Kozhikode: In the case related to the suicide of U Deepak, a native of Govindapuram here, the police remand report states that the accused, Shimjitha Mustafa, had recorded around seven videos inside the bus. The report says the videos were shot with clear awareness that they could cause humiliation and mental distress, which may have driven Deepak to take his own life.
The remand report notes that the visuals include Deepak and the woman getting down from the bus in a normal manner. Neither the bus staff nor other witnesses have stated that there was any attempt at sexual assault or similar incident inside the bus. Police have also found no evidence so far to suggest that any such incident took place.
Despite being aware that a complaint could have been filed if any wrongdoing had occurred, the accused did not approach the police. According to the remand report, the videos were deleted only after the incident became controversial.
The accused allegedly recorded around seven videos portraying Deepak in an objectionable manner and circulated them on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. Police state that the circulation of these videos could have provoked Deepak to commit suicide. The report warns that granting bail to the accused could send a wrong message to society and may lead to similar incidents, including more suicides. It also states that if released on bail, the accused could threaten or influence witnesses and obstruct the investigation.
The remand report further says that steps are required to recover the Facebook and Instagram accounts deleted from the accused’s phone and that the device needs to undergo detailed forensic examination.
Statements from witnesses present at the time of the incident are yet to be recorded, according to the Kozhikode Medical College police.
Police have not yet filed a custody application, stating that further action will be considered only after the results of forensic and cyber examinations of the phone are received.
