Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala-cadre ADGP Mahipal Yadav passed away while undergoing treatment for a brain tumour. His death occurred in Rajasthan on Wednesday, the very day his retirement ceremony was scheduled to be held at the Kerala Police headquarters.

Yadav, who was serving as Additional Director General of Police (Crimes) in Kerala, had previously worked as the State Excise Commissioner for two years. He was appointed as ADGP (Crimes) in July this year.

Yadav, a 1997 batch IPS officer, was due to retire on the 30th of this month, and his official farewell at the Police Headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram was scheduled for today.

A 1997 batch IPS officer, Mahipal Yadav held several important positions during his career, including Excise Commissioner, Inspector General with the Border Security Force (BSF) on central deputation, IG of Ernakulam Range and managing director of the Kerala State Beverages Corporation. In 2013, he was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.

A native of Alwar, Rajasthan, Yadav had served in the CBI where he investigated high-profile cases, including the AgustaWestland helicopter scam and the disproportionate assets case involving Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav.
