Kochi: The Jail department has complained that KT Ramees and Sarith Nair, who were arrested in gold smuggling case, are not following prison rules. The report submitted by the department before the courts raised serious allegations against the duo.

It is complained that Ramees consumed drugs inside the jail and Sarith helped him. Poojapura central jail superintendent submitted the report before NIA court, Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court and court for economic offences.

The report was prepared after examining CCTV visuals on July 5.

Ramees was seen smoking something in the backyard of the prison building, cites the report. When Ramees was smoking, Sarith stood in front of the cell to observe whether any officials are coming towards the area. The CCTV visuals confirmed this fact.

Ramees had received a parcel a few days back. It is observed that some items banned in the jail found place inside the parcel. Noticing this, the jail officials refused to hand over the parcel to Ramees. An argument broke out between Ramees and the officials over the incident, the report cited.

Earlier, Sarith raised complaints against jail department officials when he was produced before the court. He also complained that the officials forced him to name BJP and Congress leaders in the case. Following this, Poojapura central jail superintendent submitted a report against Sarith and Ramees on July 8.

NIA court asked the officials to produce Sarith. If the court intervenes in the issue, the accused are likely to get shifted to another jail outside Kerala.
