MT Vasudevan Nair's speech, delivered in January 2024 in Kozhikode, remains a focal point of political discourse. The legendary writer's observations on power dynamics and the Stalinist cult, delivered in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, sparked significant unease within Kerala's ruling CPM. He said “The theory that being in power gives a better opportunity to serve people has been long forgotten. We have all been witnessing politics stooping to new lows with each passing day. The lack of qualified people is often cited as the reason for this. Engaging in political works is the way to gain power. Power can at times give way to dominance or even authoritarianism! A place in the Cabinet, Assembly or the Parliament always provides the leader with an opportunity to dominate over others.” This statement was perceived as a veiled criticism of the prevailing political leadership in Kerala.

pinarayi vijayan

Controversy erupted after an interview of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was published on September 30 by The Hindu. In the interview, Vijayan was quoted as saying: "150 kg of gold and hawala money worth Rs 123 crore were seized by the state police in the last five years from Malappuram district. This money is entering Kerala for anti-state and anti-national activities."

Later, the Chief Minister’s Office issued a press note claiming that the remarks made in the interview did not reflect the CM’s views or the state government's stance. In a subsequent move, The Hindu issued a correction stating that PR agency Kaizzen had approached the newspaper offering an interview with the Chief Minister. During the interview, two representatives from the PR agency were present alongside Vijayan at Kerala House in New Delhi. After the interview, one of the PR representatives requested the inclusion of specific details about gold smuggling and hawala transactions in Malappuram—statements that the CM later disowned.

The Hema Committee's report, addressing issues faced by female actors in the Malayalam film industry, began with a poignant observation:  "The sky is filled with mysteries, adorned by twinkling stars and the enchanting moon. However, scientific inquiry has shown that stars don’t actually twinkle, and the moon may not be as alluring as it appears. This highlights an important lesson: 'Don’t always trust your eyes; even salt can resemble sugar.'" This opening line set the tone for the report, highlighting the industry's underlying challenges despite its glamorous facade. The report sheds light on the widespread issue of the 'casting couch' in Malayalam cinema, pointing primarily to producers and directors who exploit actors' vulnerabilities. It further claimed that the Malayalam film industry is largely under the influence of criminal elements and disclosed that actors who comply with the casting couch are assigned code names.

"I have had so many failures in my life, got two hundred and then two ducks. I kept on believing in myself, kept on working hard and it came off today. After a couple of failures, there were a lot of things going on in my head. Abhishek helped me out early on and then Tilak as well."

Samson, who scored an unbeaten 109 runs from 56 balls, smashed 6 fours and 9 sixes at a strike rate of 194.64. Speaking during the innings break in Johannesburg, Samson praised his teammates Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma, noting how their support played a significant role in his stellar performance.
