Kattappana, Idukki: Three workers lost their lives in a tragic accident while cleaning a drain here on Tuesday night.

The victims have been identified as Jayaram, a native of Kambam in Tamil Nadu, and Sundharapandian and Michael, both residents of Gudalur. They were engaged in cleaning a drain near a hotel undergoing renovation when the incident occurred.

The accident took place around 10:30 pm. According to police, one worker who first entered the drain collapsed, prompting the other two to rush in to rescue him. However, all three became trapped inside.

Police, Fire and Rescue personnel, assisted by local residents, launched an immediate rescue operation. The bodies of the three workers were recovered around midnight.
