Kottayam: AG Karthik, a third-year political science student at Nattakom Government College, Kottayam, will now lead the college union. Karthik, who has been living with spinal muscular atrophy has been elected unopposed as the college union chairman.
Karthik’s involvement in student politics began soon after he joined the college. He is a SFI activist. The college elections held on Friday saw all seats filled unopposed, except for the position of arts club secretary.
His classmates have always been supportive regardless of political differences.They assist him in getting to classes in a wheelchair. He arrives at the college every day in an autorickshaw from his home and is carried to the classroom by his fellow students.
Karthik has been living with spinal muscular atrophy since early childhood, with symptoms appearing just six months after his birth. His journey has been one of resilience, battling the illness and overcoming daily obstacles to achieve his dreams.
He is the son of AK Girish and Shiny, natives of Thrissur.
