Kannur: BJP leader AP Abdullakutty has claimed that Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is the “international president” of the Narendra Modi Fans Association. Speaking at the Thayyil NDA general meeting, the BJP National Vice President also said he himself was expelled from the CPM for being the first president of the Modi Fans Association in Kerala.

Abdullakutty added that if his own expulsion was due to this association, “it seems Shashi Tharoor too will be removed from the Congress.” He further asserted that the “development politics championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is sweeping through Kerala’s political landscape like a storm”.

The BJP, he said, is poised to secure a historic victory in the Kannur Corporation elections and “will emerge as the force that determines who should govern”. The meeting was presided over by Krishnaprabha, with K.G. Babu also addressing the gathering.

Those responsible for stagnation are now offering promises: BJP

BJP Kannur North District President K.K. Vinod Kumar accused both the Congress and the CPI(M) of causing prolonged developmental stagnation in the Kannur Corporation and the wider district.

He alleged that the UDF, which governed continuously for six years, is now making grand promises such as skywalks and convention centres, despite leaving behind “a legacy of corruption and stalled development”. Vinod Kumar demanded that the government conduct a vigilance probe into the financial assets of former mayors and certain UDF councillors.

He added that misgovernance by the CPM is the primary reason for the district’s lack of progress. Vinod Kumar also called for enhanced security during polling, including the deployment of additional police and military personnel in sensitive booths and the installation of CCTV cameras inside and outside polling stations.

He urged the Collector and the police to take all necessary precautions to prevent any outbreak of violence, adding that polling agents from other parties must be allowed to remain in CPI(M)–Congress stronghold booths.
