Varapuzha: An investigation focusing on the mobile phones of the couple who were part of the mass suicide in Kadamakkudy is underway. The phones used by the deceased Nijo and his wife Shilpa have been handed over to the Cyber Division of Thiruvananthapuram for examination. The police hope to gain some clarity about the deaths after recovering the calls and messages received and sent on the phones.
The police do not fully believe that online loan was the sole reason for the family to take this extreme step. Probe is also being conducted into Shilpa’s recent trip abroad. As per the preliminary information received by the police, Shilpa visited Abu Dhabi as an initial step of going to Italy but could not go further because of some problems in her documents.
The family had made arrangements for Shilpa’s journey through an agent in Mala. As per reports, Shilpa did not get the promised job as one of the requirements of the job was to be of 30 years of age while Shilpa was 29. Thus, she allegedly went to Abu Dhabi to get some age relaxation.
Shilpa was reportedly depressed about having returned without a job. Along with this, the police believe that the threats and harassment from the online loan apps added to the family’s woes. Their suicide note only mentions financial burden as the reason for their decision to end their own and their young children’s life.
