Kochi: Justice Soumen Sen has been appointed as the next Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court, succeeding incumbent Chief Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar, who is set to retire on January 9, 2026.

The Central government on Thursday issued a notification transferring Justice Sen from the Meghalaya High Court to the Kerala High Court.

Justice Sen began his judicial career as a judge of the Calcutta High Court, where he was appointed on April 13, 2011. Following the retirement of then Chief Justice T. S. Sivagnanam, he served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court from September 15, 2025.

On September 11, 2025, the Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India B. R. Gavai, recommended Justice Sen’s appointment as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court. He assumed charge on September 26, 2025.
