Kottakal: The Karma Shreshta and Karma awards of MKR foundation have been announced. Senior journalist TJS George has been conferred with the Karma Shreshta award. He will receive a cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs. Meanwhile, social worker Daya Bai will be awarded the Karma award along with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.

The awards are given in the memory of MK Ramunni Nair aka Maanukuttan Nair, who was a prominent figure in the socio-cultural circles of Kottakkal. The award winners are selected by a judging committee chaired by MT Vasudevan Nair. The other eminent personalities in the panel include Sara Joseph, Dr P Balachandran, Dr K Muraleedharan, Sheeba Ameer and U Achu. 

The Karma Shreshta award is given once in every four years. PK Warrier, former managing trustee of Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala, was the previous winner of the award.   

Sheeba Ameera, KK Shailaja, Madhav Gadgil, E Sreedharan, Geetha Vazhachal and K Dinu are among the list of Karma award winners.

The awards will be distributed at a function at Thunchan Parambu in Tirur on October 28 evening.
