Jayaram appeared at the ED’s Kochi zonal office. The actor told the SIT that his connection with the accused, Unnikrishnan Potti, is solely a long-standing friendship and that no money was ever exchanged between them.

Earlier, it was revealed that Potti conducted rituals and prayers using the gold plating and cladding from the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple at multiple locations, including at Jayaram’s Chennai residence.

The controversy surrounding the case traces its origins to a 1998 donation by industrialist Vijay Mallya, who donated 30.3 kilograms of gold and 1,900 kilograms of copper for gold plating and cladding at the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple. Subsequent inspections and court-monitored inquiries revealed discrepancies between the donated gold and the quantity allegedly used.
