Kochi:Two jail officials have been suspended over allegations of providing VIP treatment to businessman Boby Chemmanur, who was briefly housed at Kakkanad district jail following his arrest in the actress harassment case.
Central Zone jail DIG Ajaykumar and Superintendent Raju Abraham were suspended following an investigation report submitted by the Prison Headquarters DIG.
The controversy erupted after reports claimed that Chemmanur received special privileges while in custody and that several VIPs had visited him in jail. The investigation report highlighted procedural irregularities and named additional staff members accused of attempting to influence the inquiry.
According to the report, three VIPs, including a Thrissur resident, visited Chemmanur without registering their names in the visitors' log. They reportedly spent nearly an hour with him. CCTV footage from the jail confirmed these violations, prompting disciplinary action against the officials.
