Munnar: After Al-Qaeda terrorists disguised as migrant workers were nabbed from the state, the State Intelligence wing has started inspection among the migrant workers in the plantations here.

According to estimate, there are over 1500 migrant workers in a company alone in Munnar. Majority of them are from Jharkhand, Assam and West Bengal. A large number of them came from Jharkhand.

The terrorists arrested from Ernakulam and Perumbavoor a week ago were actually hailing from Bangladesh and were staying in Kerala with fake identity proofs. Following this, the Intelligence wing intensified searches in the plantation sector.

Terrorists from Bangladesh and other countries reach Assam and Bengal via boats and stay in plantations in remote areas carrying fake documents. On knowing the chances of this, the Intelligence intensified search. ID proofs and Aadhaar cards of the migrant labourers are checked in detail.

The state police chief had ordered that details of the migrant labourers and their families should be submitted in the concerned police stations. However, the agents who arrange the workers fail to submit accurate details and this order is never properly implemented in plantation sector.
