Bengaluru: Anju Bobby George has raised sharp criticism against the state government for not giving recognition to Indian hockey team member and goalkeeper P R Sreejesh for Indian hockey team’s gigantic win in Olympics after 41 years.
Anju responded to Mathrubhumi news that Sreejesh did not get the respect that he truly deserved and that the government had the same approach towards her when she won the World Championship Medal. She also added that the government had said back then that the treasury was empty.
Anju pointed out that this approach by the state government must be changed and that Kerala must feel proud about the Olympics victory. She expressed her opinion amidst the rising criticism against the government’s lapses to honour Sreejesh.
The stellar performance by Indian goalkeeper Sreejesh is what led India into the semifinals and helped them win against Germany in the match for the Bronze medal.
The state has not yet declared any reward for Sreejesh. Kerala Hockey had earlier declared Rs 5 lakhs cash reward for Sreejesh and Rs 5 lakhs for the Indian Hockey Team. BCCI has declared an amount of Rs 1.25 cr for the Hockey team.
Expat entrepreneur Dr Shamsheer Vayalil had also declared Rs 1 cr for Sreejesh. Mathrubhumi will honour him with a reward of Rs 2 lakhs.
