Incredible carvings remind of sculptors who renovated Guruvayur temple after fire accident


It was Elavally Narayanan Achari and team who completed the ivory carving themed on Kiratharjuneeyam story, dragon figures, idols of Dakshinamoorthy, Narasimham and Vishnu and other carvings.

Guruvayur: After the historic fire accident in Guruvayur temple, it was reconstructed by a number of skilled sculptors. Late ivory sculptor Elavally Narayanan Achari, Perakam Manu Achari, Aluva Chandran Achari, SK Achari, Chenkotta native Balayya and other sculptors will be remembered forever for their talent.

It was Elavally Narayanan Achari and team who completed the ivory carving themed on Kiratharjuneeyam story, dragon figures, idols of Dakshinamoorthy, Narasimham and Vishnu and other carvings.

Narayanan Achari was honoured with the title of ‘Second Perunthachan’ by the Guruvayur Devaswom. He also received a national award for the talent.

The framework of the roof was completed by Manu Achari and wood works on Vilakkumadam was done by Aluva Chandran Achari. S K Achari and Chenkotta Balayya together completed the granite works and other carvings on the temple.
