Thrissur: The Income Tax Department has frozen the bank accounts belonging to the CPM Thrissur district committee at the Bank of India branch, MG Road, Thrissur. The action follows after a flash raid by the tax officials at the bank yesterday.
The particular bank is located close to the Thrissur CPM district committee office. Yesterday, while the raid was taking place, party district secretary M M Varghese was being interrogated at the Kochi office of the enforcement directorate (ED). In its raids, the Income Tax Department has found out that the party holds unaccounted money amounting to Rs 3.8 crores.
The raids were conducted by five officials of the Thrissur unit of the income Tax Department. The inspection which began at 12 in the morning extended till night yesterday. The higher officials of the bank were not allowed to leave the building until the procedures were over.
