Kochi: Indian Medical Association (IMA) state president Dr Abraham Varghese stated that a complete lockdown in Kerala under the current circumstances will not be effective.
The state was able to control COVID transmission and energise the prevention activities during the lockdown implemented earlier. However, regional lockdowns will be more effective under the current context. Lockdown will have to be implemented on the basis of different zones after identifying different clusters.
All signs indicate that community transmission has taken place in Kerala. This is evident in all regions including Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode. The number of patients whose source could not be identified are on the rise in the state.
Anyone who appears before us could be carriers of the disease. So the disease can only be prevented by using face masks, sanitisers and adhering to social distancing. The IMA state president also said that it is only with the help of such preventive measures that we can fight this pandemic.
