Alappuzha (Kerala): Former minister and senior G Sudhakaran has announced that he is stepping away from the party, stating that he does not wish to continue in the CPM in a manner that would cause discomfort to leaders including State Secretary M V Govindan. Sudhakaran responded through a Facebook post, sharing a video clip of Govindan’s press conference remarks in which the latter said Sudhakaran did not deserve any consideration.

What he said in his post

“I did not apply to renew my membership during the 2026 membership scrutiny. Therefore, I did not have to pay the levy or subscription. In 2022, I was removed from the State Committee. Since then, I have been functioning as a branch committee member under the Alappuzha DC.

“After I suffered a fall and injury, I attended all branch meetings regularly except one. After serving 43 years as a State Committee member, not even once did the District Secretary inquire how I was managing after returning to work at the branch level. I have no complaints.

“Despite having a 63-year history as a party member, the District Secretary has not entrusted me with any public programmes over the past five years. Even when the 50th anniversary of the Emergency was held at EMS Hall near my house, I — the only surviving person in the district who had defied the ban during the early days of the Emergency, led a protest, faced arrest, imprisonment, lock-up assault and a BIR case — was not even sent an invitation.

“An LC member, who is a close disciple of a District Committee member, even posted remarks criticising my father. I have endured all this over the past five years without succumbing to any inducement.

“Recently, I learnt that a member from Thottappally who went to speak to the Party Secretary was spoken to improperly by someone in the district leadership. Now, the State Secretary himself, in response to a question at a press conference, used an inappropriate expression implying that I do not deserve any consideration, and laughed mockingly. I saw the press corps laughing as well. No one has been prepared to question or correct this.

“I am not detailing further incidents. In this situation, I do not wish to continue in the party and cause discomfort to the above-mentioned leaders. Therefore, during this membership scrutiny period, I am voluntarily choosing not to renew my membership. I will continue to stand firm in ideology along with lakhs of people. Best wishes to all. Thank you.”
