Kozhikode: Following the arrest of his brother P K Bujair in connection with an assault on police officers, Muslim League state general secretary P K Firoz has stated that if he is guilty, he should be punished as an example. Firoz also added that he will not interfere politically or personally in the matter. He urged the police to conduct an impartial investigation and said that if his brother is found at fault, he should be punished accordingly.
“The case against my brother includes two non-bailable charges: obstructing police duty and causing injury to police officers. I see a widespread reaction against me as the brother of a person accused of a crime. My brother is an individual, and I am a different person. He has no connection with my political activities. In fact, he often criticises and mocks my politics, which can be seen by anyone checking his social media accounts,” he said.
“The police say Riyas Thodukayil is involved in drug trafficking. The allegation is that my brother had WhatsApp chats with Riyas Thodukayil. Who is Riyas Thodukayil? Anyone checking his social media will find out he is a CPM activist. The police say that Riyas Thodukayil, a CPM activist, was involved in drug trafficking. But just yesterday, the police released him. CPM local committee leaders took him from the station,” Firoz added.
“Neither any League worker nor the Kundamangalam Police Station officials have visited to meet my brother or take him from the station. I have not gone to that area either. If he has committed a crime, he should be punished for it. I do not wish to interfere in any way. If my brother or anyone else is involved in any drug trafficking that harms society, strong action must be taken against them. This is my stance, which is based on conversations with my parents,” he further said.
“The interest behind leaders like K T Jaleel and Bineesh Kodiyeri coming forward will be understood by Malayalis. We will continue to speak out against the corruption perpetuated by such people who cling to power. If anyone thinks they can silence us by pointing fingers at mistakes made by any family member, it will not happen.
“I urge the police to conduct an impartial investigation regarding my brother. If he is guilty, he should receive exemplary punishment. I will not interfere politically or personally in this. If any wrongdoing has been committed by my brother, I will be the happiest to see him receive exemplary punishment,” he said.
“If anyone thinks I am justifying my brother by what I have said, I repeat that I welcome any investigation conducted by the police. But currently, Pinarayi Vijayan’s police have filed two charges against him: obstructing police duty and causing injury to police officers. These are the two charges currently framed against him. If the police find his involvement in any other crimes, they should investigate and ensure he receives exemplary punishment. Whoever is involved in crimes that threaten society, whether from my family or elsewhere, there will be no difference in my stance,” said Firoz.
Bujair remanded
Meanwhile, the Kundamangalam Magistrate Court ordered a 14-day remand for Bujair. He was later transferred to Kozhikode Sub Jail.
Bujair, a native of Pathimangalam, was arrested by Kundamangalam police last night. Based on secret information regarding drug trafficking, police were questioning Bujar at the bus stop in Choolamvayal when he allegedly attacked the officers. CPO Sreejith was injured in the assault.
