Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: The Kerala Home Department has ordered a probe into alleged remarks by RSS ideologue T.G. Mohandas calling for action against CJP-led student protesters in Delhi.

The inquiry will be conducted by Cyber Cell IG P. Prakash following a complaint filed by the AIYF state secretary. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala directed the probe after receiving the complaint.

The controversy erupted after a video surfaced in which Mohandas allegedly said that, had he been in charge, he would have ordered security forces to shoot protesters.

In the video, he is heard saying, "If this situation were in my hands, I'll tell you what I would do. I would impose a curfew within a four-square-kilometre radius of Jantar Mantar. I would ask the people to disperse three times. Then I would open fire. People would scatter, some would die, some would survive... some would suffer permanent injuries... Within about four hours, the area would be brought under control. The bodies would be collected and taken to hospitals."

Youth and student organisations, including the Youth Congress and the Students' Federation of India (SFI), have also lodged complaints seeking action against Mohandas over the alleged remarks.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan criticised the state government for not registering a case against Mohandas.

In a Facebook post, Vijayan alleged that the remarks reflected the Sangh Parivar's "mindset of eliminating dissent."

"Kerala Police, which acted swiftly to register cases against people who peacefully protested in solidarity with the student agitation in Delhi, has so far failed to register even a single case against TG Mohandas, who called for protesters to be shot dead,” Vijayan said.

“It is a disgrace to Kerala that the police, which raises lathis against peaceful protesters, bends before Sangh Parivar leaders who openly incite violence. The state government's attempt to appease the RSS by reducing the police force and the rule of law to mere spectators is unacceptable. The cases registered against those who protested democratically should be withdrawn immediately. At the same time, the UDF government must register a case without delay over the alleged incitement to violence and initiate legal action," Vijayan added.
