Ottapalam: In a huge catch, the police recovered as much as 2906 kilos of sandalwood from a scrap shop at Pavukkonam here on Wednesday.  The scrap dealer was arrested for amassing the sandalwood under the pretext of the scrap business. He is identified as Hasan of Puthukattil House at Vadanamkurussi in Ongallur here.

The sandalwood was recovered from the shop, running in a shed near Hasan’s ancestral house at Kottakulam.

The sandalwood was collected in different forms like pieces, powder and shavings. It was stocked in around 50 plastic boxes besides sacks, the police said.
