Kochi: Kerala High Court on Tuesday made a significant intervention in ending the practice of gawking wages ('Nokkukooli') that continue to trouble citizens all across the state. High Court Justice Devan Ramachandran directed the government to make amendments to The Kerala Headload Workers Act of 1978. The court asked the government to clarify its stand on the matter.
High Court pointed out that despite the intervention of the court in many cases related to Gawking wages, the practice continues to persist in the state.
The court directed the government to take a stand on the matter before December 8. The court also directed the police to take effective action on incidents involving gawking wages. The police were asked to issue a circular in this regard.
