
Kottayam: Those who had taken part in protests against the SilverLine project in Kerala received summons directing them to pay a hefty fee for violating Covid-19 rules.
So far, summons were issued to 150 persons across the state. However, Anti K-Rail Protest Committee said more than 250 cases were lodged against the protestors. Therefore, the number of persons receiving summons could increase in the coming days.
CB Kollatt, who participated in the protests in Kottayam, said he received a notice to pay Rs 10,000. In Kottayam itself, many people received notices for fines amounting to Rs 5000.
Five protestors who approached the court for bail in Angamaly were granted after paying a fine of Rs 25,000.
The government told the High Court that it could not withdraw the cases citing protestors were booked under various charges, including destroying public property, unlawful assembly, violation of Covid-19 laws and obstructing public servants in the discharge of public functions.
