Kottayam: The State is once again experiencing heavy rains, with strong winds and widespread damage reported across several areas, especially in the southern districts. In Pallath, Kottayam, a house partially collapsed after a tree fell due to the intense wind. Other areas affected include Puthupally, MG University, and Kidangoor, where trees have also fallen. The fire force is working to remove the fallen trees, but there is huge damage. At the Kottayam KSRTC depot, parked two-wheelers were damaged when a tree fell over them.

Train service disrupted
Train services between Kottayam and Alappuzha have been disrupted because trees have fallen on the tracks. The 06014 Kollam-Alappuzha MEMU was halted at Haripad due to disruption on the track at Thakazhi . Delays have occurred in Thumpoly and on trains heading towards Ernakulam via Alappuzha and Kottayam. However, trains between Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam and Thiruvananthapuram, and Alappuzha and Thiruvananthapuram are running smoothly. The Palaruvi Express, travelling via Kottayam, was delayed at Ochira this morning. A tree has fallen on the track near Kollam Paravoor area.
Orange alert
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Wednesday in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Malappuram districts due to the forecast of heavy rains. A yellow warning is also in effect for the rest of the eight districts because of the expected rainfall. The intensity of the rain is expected to decrease starting Thursday.
