Haridasan murder: Accused BJP activist went into hiding at CPM worker's house

Pinarayi: A BJP activist who was arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of CPM worker Punnol Thazhevayalil Haridasan went absconding in the house of another CPM activist. BJP worker Parakandi Nijildas (38) of Punnol was arrested around 2.30 am on Friday. PM Reshma (42), a teacher at Punnol Amrita Vidyalaya, gave him shelter at her house. She was also arrested by the police.

Reshma is wife of CPM activist Prashanth who resides abroad. Pinarayi local secretary Kakkoth Rajan said that Prashanth and his family are CPM supporters. The house is near CM's house in Pinarayi.

Nijildas was hiding at a house at Pandyalamukku from April 17 onwards. This house is taken for rent by artists and others. The accused called his friend Reshma on phone after Vishu and requested a place for hiding. Prashanth is unaware of the matter.

A bomb was thrown at the house soon after Nijildas was nabbed. The attackers smashed the window glasses. Locals said they heard the sound of two bombs exploding. The Bomb Squad inspected the area late at night and concluded that it was steel bombs. Police are camping in the area mainly at CM’s house.

Out of the 16 accused in the case, 14 have been arrested. Earlier, the court had rejected the bail pleas of eight persons, including Thalassery BJP constituency president Lijesh.
