
Kochi: Guruvayur Devaswom's gold investments have reached an impressive total of 869.20 kg, spread across four different gold deposit schemes. In the last financial year alone, Devaswom received Rs 7.03 crore in interest from these deposits, according to a Right to Information (RTI) response received by RTI activist M K Haridas.
The RTI response also highlighted that in the financial year prior to the last one, Guruvayur Devaswom received Rs 6.53 crore as interest from the gold investments.
The deposits are held in a branch of the State Bank of India (SBI). These gold investments were made on various dates, specifically in March and June 2019, on January 26, 2020, and most recently on November 21, 2023. In addition to the deposits, Guruvayur Devaswom retains 141.63 kg of gold at all times.
