Guruvayur: Soon after receiving a message that a Maoist woman is staying on Guruvayur temple premises, a bomb threat also was raised in the temple. It was stated in a message that the temple will be destroyed using bomb. The call came to the temple extension number 103 on Thursday night at 9 pm.
The authorities said that the threat came through an internet call to the temple security officer. The staff immediately informed the police. A team of officers led by Temple CI Premananda Krishnan inspected the temple and Devaswom office by 10 in the morning. Police and bomb squad continued searching all night.
Devaswom administrator T Breejakumari filed a complaint in the temple station. Security was tightened on the temple premises. All devotees who came to the temple on Friday were allowed to enter the temple after thorough checking only. Police searched the lodges and flats on the premises.
Though bomb threat is raised in Guruvayur temple frequently, this threat was taken seriously, said Guruvayur assistant police commissioner Biju Bhaskar. He added that the message that the Maoist is staying in the temple is not serious. This message was received on Thursday evening.
The message was received at the police control room saying a Maoist named Sujatha from Kuzhalmandam in Palakkad reached Guruvayur. The information was passed through the network of the police and security was tightened immediately.
