Railways Ministry clears DPR surveys for seven Kerala rail projects to support 160 kmph train operations.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Railways has approved surveys for the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for seven key railway projects in Kerala. The move is aimed at upgrading infrastructure to facilitate train operations at speeds of up to 160 kilometres per hour, the Ministry said in an official statement.
The projects cleared for DPR surveys
- Shoranur–Mangaluru third and fourth lines – 307 km
- Coimbatore–Shoranur third and fourth lines – 99 km
- Shoranur–Ernakulam third line – 106 km
- Ernakulam–Kayamkulam third line (via Kottayam) – 115 km
- Kayamkulam–Thiruvananthapuram third line – 105 km
- Thiruvananthapuram–Nagercoil third line – 71 km
- Thuravoor–Ambalappuzha line doubling – 46 km
The proposed expansions are expected to significantly enhance capacity, ease congestion on busy corridors and improve overall rail connectivity across the state.
