Kerala Governor seeks explanation on Saji Cheriyan's speech

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has asked the state chief secretary to submit the video of minister Saji Cheriyan's controversial speech and give an explanation.

While addressing a programme in Pathanamthitta, the minister had stated that the Indian Constitution serves to loot the working class. Following this, the opposition parties have called for the resignation of the minister.

The Governor will check if the speech is a violation of the Constitution. The Raj Bhavan considers the matter serious. It is learnt that he will meet the press in the evening.

The minister has spoken to chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on the matter.

"We all say that we have a beautifully written constitution, the most important aspect of the country. However, I would say the constitution is being used to plunder people. Indians adopted a constitution as per the direction of the British" Cheriyan said at the meeting.
