Thiruvananthapuram: Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Tuesday reappointed Prof Gopinath Raveendran as the Vice-Chancellor of Kannur University. Raveendran has been re-appointed for the next four years after his tenure came to an end on Monday. However, it is not a common practice to allow an extension to the office of the vice-chancellor.

Experts point out that the university rules allow the VC to be reappointed at the discretion of the Chancellor if necessary. However, it remains to be seen whether the report of the search committee was considered by the Governor.

Gopinath Raveendran was the Vice-Chancellor of Kannur University from November 2017 to November 22, 2021.

The rumours of him getting a second term as vice-chancellor became evident after the search committee was dissolved late on Monday.
