Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has sanctioned Rs 130 crore for the Life Mission project under which houses are provided to the homeless. The amount sanctioned is the state's share of the project. The government has given Rs 356 crore to the project this year.
The government has sanctioned the construction of 5,00,038 houses. Of this, construction of 3,85,145 has been completed. Pending constructions will soon be completed.
It may be noted that funds for the construction of houses have also been sourced through loans from Hudco. Minister M B Rajesh said that the Finance Department has given a government guarantee to HUDCO towards the next installment of Rs 448.34 crore. Another government guarantee of Rs 217.22 crore will be given for the construction of houses in cities.
Within the next two years, an aid of Rs 10,000 crore will be provided for the construction of 2 lakh houses as part of the LIFE mission.
The total funds spent to construct houses is Rs 17,209.09 crore. Among these Rs 2081.69 crore (12.09%) is the Central government's share and Rs 5185.59 crore (30.13%) is the share from the state government.
