
Thiruvananthapuram: A large haul of gold being smuggled into Kerala in the diplomatic baggage addressed to the UAE consulate here in the city was seized by officials of the Thiruvananthapuram international airport.
Customs officials are examining the baggage which arrived as air cargo. The incident came to light on Sunday morning. The gold was kept in a parcel. Diplomatic baggages are quickly sent through checks. However, on suspicion, customs officials checked the items.
It is learned that several kilograms of gold was seized. The officials are probing who sent the parcel and to whom.
The UAE consulate is situated at Manacaud. It is learned that the parcel was addressed to the consulate. The officials refused to divulge more details.
