
Thiruvananthapuram: Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs Department on Monday morning nabbed a passenger who was trying to smuggle gold worth 21 lahks inside kitchen utensils at Thiruvananthapuram airport. The person reached Kerala this morning after deboarding from his flight from Dubai to Thiruvananthapuram.
Customs officials have confirmed that almost 324.140 gm of gold was hidden in different plates and tins. The accused was trying to sneak through the security checks by hiding gold in a few kitchen equipment like knives that are used to cut vegetables, a tin filled with oats and glasses. Customs has also filed a case against him.
Apart from that almost 25 lakh worth of foreign-manufactured cigarettes were also confiscated from six Dubai and Sharjah travellers. Approximately 1,48,230 cigarettes were found inside check-in bags during the AIU customs search.
