Kochi: Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court asked what evidence is available against Sandeep Nair and PS Sarith in the gold smuggling case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). It further asked the ED what evidence is available against Sandeep and Sarith apart from their confession statement.

Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court had granted bail to Sandeep Nair and Sarith the other day. The court made this remark in the order granting bail to both of them.

The ED had informed the court that Sandeep and Sarith had smuggled gold 21 times. However, the court accepted the arguments of the defence counsel and granted them bail. Meanwhile, the ED will approach the high court against granting bail to the accused.

Though Sarith and Sandeep were granted bail they would not be released as COFEPOSA (Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities) was charged against them. Swapna Suresh and M Sivasankar, who were accused in gold smuggling case booked by the ED, were already given bail.
