Kodungallur: In a major twist to the gold missing case at the Town Cooperative Bank, the so-called missing ornaments were recovered from the complainant’s own relative’s house. The complainant has apparently come up with a clarification that the gold that she had earlier reported to have gone missing from the bank locker in the Kodungallur Town Cooperative Bank, was actually forgotten by her in an almirah at her relative’s house.       

Edamuttam native Sunitha, along with her mother Savithri, had lodged a complaint at the Kodungallur police claiming that their gold ornaments kept in the locker at the Azhikode branch of the bank had gone missing. Even the bank authorities had given a complaint demanding an enquiry into the allegation as they apparently found her claim to be wrong. 

While the investigation was progressing, the police received a call on Saturday from Sunitha claiming that she had not lost any gold. She later arrived at the station with her mother and even gave a written statement withdrawing her complaint.   

Sunitha had placed several important documents in the locker of an almirah at her relative’s house in Valapad beach. According to Sunitha, she had opened the particular locker on Friday morning to check the documents. But to her shock, she found her 50 sovereigns of gold, which she had reported gone missing, inside the almirah. 

Upon informing the police, they arrived at the house in Valapad and verified the retrieved gold. The investigation was being led under the supervision of DYSP Salish N Shankaran, SHO ER Baiju, and SI Kashyapan.

Meanwhile, the cooperative bank is mulling on filing a defamation case against the complainant, for attempting to tarnish the reputation of the financial institution. They also raised suspicion over the complainant’s claims.
