KSRTC introduces 'gender ticketing' to track female ridership, signaling a potential move toward free travel for women in Kerala.

Thiruvananthapuram: KSRTC is set to implement a new system known as 'Gender Ticketing'. Starting May 9, the facility to record the gender of the passenger as male or female while issuing tickets via Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETM) will come into effect.
The Congress had previously pledged that if the UDF comes to power, free travel for women would be ensured through the 'Indira Guarantee' scheme.
It is expected that this current move is part of the measures to calculate exactly how many women travel on KSRTC buses daily. When issuing a ticket, the conductor must record the passenger's gender in the ETM. The IT Department will provide urgent training to conductors to familiarise them with these technical changes.
KSRTC MD Dr P S Pramoj Shankar said that Unit Officers at each depot would supervise the implementation.
