'Gajaveeran' Paramekkavu Padmanabhan dies in Thrissur


Thrissur: Paramekkavu temple's celebrity tusker Padmanabhan died here on Monday.

The 60-year-old elephant had been carrying the idol of Paramekkavu Bhagavati during Thrissur Pooram for more than a decade.
Padmanabhan was under treatment after collapsing and falling ill a week ago. It breathed its last around 9.30 pm on Monday.

A devotee had offered Padmanabhan to Paramekkavu temple in 2005. The jumbo had won the hearts of many elephant lovers by carrying the idol of Paramekkavu Bhagavathi for more than a decade.

Padmanabhan was one of the tallest captive tuskers in Kerala.
