Kochi: The body of the Mattancherry native, who died of COVID-19 here was buried on Saturday. The burial was held as per the World Health Organisation protocol at a mosque in Mattancherry.

The body was taken from the Kalamassery Medical College to the mosque only after all arrangements for the burial were completed. As soon as the body arrived at the mosque, the final rites were performed and the body was buried in 10-feet deep grave.

Officials including tehsildar oversaw the burial procedure. Only 10 persons, including five relatives attended the funeral. Due to safety reasons, they were standing outside the mosque. The officials had taken all safety precautions and were wearing masks and gloves as per protocol.
