Pathanamthitta, Kerala: Kudumbashree’s 'Onaruchi' initiative in the district recorded a turnover of ₹9,82,800 during the Onam season. The first Onasadya organised by Kudumbashree featured 23 dishes, including Payasam.
A total of 3,510 orders were placed across the district. Of these, 766 were received through call centres operated by the District Kudumbashree Mission and 2,744 through entrepreneurs in different parts of the district. The Onasadya reached schools, colleges, private institutions and households.
Under the Kudumbashree District Mission’s leadership, 22 selected units from 8 blocks prepared the feast, which was delivered starting August 28. Initially planned until Thiruvonam day, the service was extended for two more days due to demand. On Saturday, 30 people received the Sadya, while on Sunday, around 40 households were served. All Thiruvonam orders came from homes. Pallikkal in Parakkadu block topped the order list, with significant demand also from Pathanamthitta, Pandalam and Thiruvalla.
Pricing was set at ₹180 per plate for orders above 500, ₹200 for 250 to 500 orders, ₹230 for 100 to 250 orders, and ₹280 for fewer than 100 orders. The nearest unit handled deliveries, which were free within five kilometres.
Given the success of this pilot project, Kudumbashree plans to expand the programme on a larger scale next year, District Mission Coordinator S Adhila said.
