Kochi: Landon (39), a French national, was hospitalised after falling into an open ditch dug for construction work in Fort Kochi, fracturing his femur (thigh bone). 

The incident occurred on Thursday morning at the Fort Kochi Customs Jetty here.

Landon, who had arrived in Fort Kochi with his mother Laurence on Wednesday, was walking to the boat jetty on Thursday morning to go to Ernakulam for shopping. However, he fell into the open ditch and was unable to get up. Nearby auto drivers and the police, who were alerted by the locals, lifted him out of the ditch.

Landon, who has some physical difficulties already, was initially taken to the Government Hospital in Fort Kochi following the accident. He was later admitted to Aster Medcity for surgery, which is scheduled for Friday.
