Guruvayur: Guruvayur completed ninety years of a great struggle, Guruvayur Satyagraha, a golden feather in the Kerala renaissance history. Many programmes have been set up in the town to enhance the spirit of Satyagraha which has guided the progress of Kerala. Devaswom and the corporation in general, as well as many other organisations, have organised a year-long celebration independently.

It was on November 1, 1931, the Satyagraha movement started in Guruvayur under the leadership of K Kelappan. All sections of Hindus were allowed to enter the Guruvayur temple only after fifteen years of Kelappan's fast and Gandhiji's visit. Even Satyagraha was organised for temple entrance. The temple gate was opened to all Hindus on June 2, 1947, after the Madras Government passed the Temple Entry Bill.
