Nedumkandam: Former MLA M.J. Jacob has continued his remarkable sporting journey by winning two gold medals in the 80-plus category at the Malayali Masters State Meet held in Nedumkandam.

Jacob secured top honours in the hurdles and long jump events. He has been a regular gold medallist at the State Masters Meet over the years. His achievements at the state level come alongside consistent performances in national and international competitions.

During his long sporting career, Jacob has competed in athletics meets across several Asian countries, including Japan, China, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines. He has also represented India in events held in France, Australia, Finland, Germany, and the United States, where he earned multiple medals.

Jacob said disciplined exercise routines and uninterrupted training have helped him maintain his performance over the years. He stressed that mental well-being is as important as physical fitness. He added that games such as chess can play a role in strengthening mental health.

Beyond athletics, Jacob has had an active political career. He won the Assembly election in 2006 after defeating former minister T.M. Jacob. He also served as the president of Thirumarady Panchayat for 15 years.
