Kottarakkara: Former MLA and All India Lawyers' Union state treasurer Aisha Potty has announced her decision to retire from politics, citing health issues. Aisha stated that her health concerns have made it difficult for her to actively engage in political activities. "I cannot remain in the party without being able to contribute effectively. Let those who can work actively continue," she remarked.  

Aisha had been stepping back from party activities for some time. The CPMKottarakkara Area Committee had recently removed her from its ranks, citing her lack of involvement in party programmes. She had also stayed away from the area conference as against the expectations that she would attend at least on the second day.  

Reports suggest that Aisha had been sidelined by the party leadership post-elections. Complaints were raised that she was being excluded from developmental activities in the constituency. There had been speculation that the three-time MLA might be considered for positions such as Speaker or Chairperson of the Women's Commission. However, the lack of consideration for such roles and marginalisation in local development projects are believed to have deepened her rift with the leadership.
