Thrissur: Police were surprised as they interrogated the person suspected of stealing a bus parked at the Kunnamkulam bus stand. Shamnad, a former driver, has been accused of stealing and smuggling a private bus operating on the Kunnamkulam-Thrissur route. According to the police, Shamnad, who had previously worked for the bus company, took the bus, named 'Shony,' from the Kunnamkulam bus stand where it was parked after service on Monday night. When the police questioned him in custody, Shamnad said that it was early morning and he was too tired of waiting for a vehicle to reach his house. Tired and frustrated, he said that he took the bus from the bus stand and drove it to get home.
When the bus crew arrived on Tuesday morning, they discovered the bus missing and reported it to the police. CCTV footage revealed Shamnad driving the bus around 4 a.m. The bus was later found abandoned near the Guruvayur flyover.
Shamnad, a resident of Guruvayur and originally from Alappuzha, explained to the police that he took the bus to go home because he couldn’t find another vehicle. The police have taken Shamnad into custody and are conducting a detailed interrogation.
