POCSO case filed against former Kerala DGP and BJP councillor R Sreelekha for allegedly revealing sexual assault victims’ identities.

Thiruvananthapuram: A POCSO case has been registered against former Kerala DGP and current Thiruvananthapuram Corporation councillor R Sreelekha of the BJP for allegedly revealing the identities of sexual assault victims, including minors, in a video posted on her social media platform.
The case comes after a petition filed in October 2025 by R Jayachandran, secretary of the Thiruvananthapuram-based human rights organisation Civil Rights and Social Justice Society (CRSJS). The petition alleged that Sreelekha disclosed private details of victims in high-profile cases such as the Delhi Nirbhaya case, Kilirur-Kaviyur cases, murder by Govindachamy case and the Perumbavoor sexual assault case through her YouTube channel.
On January 21, the Thiruvananthapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate had directed the Museum Police to conduct a detailed probe into the allegations. When the petitioner returned to court on February 23 citing inaction, Thiruvananthapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate Tania Mariam Jose issued fresh instructions for police to register an FIR and launch a formal investigation.
Police officials at the Museum Police station have confirmed that action will be taken in line with the court’s directions. Advocate M Anil Kumar appeared in court on behalf of the complainant.
Sreelekha, who retired as Kerala DGP, contested the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation local body election on a BJP ticket and currently serves as a councillor.
