Police seek legal opinion on complaint alleging Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil pressured woman for abortion.

Kochi: Police have sought legal advice on whether a case can be registered against Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil over allegations that he pressured a woman to undergo an abortion. The complaint was filed by Kerala High Court lawyer Shinto Sebastian with Ernakulam Central police.
Voice message forms basis of allegation
According to police, the complaint refers to a purported voice message which allegedly records Mamkootathil pressuring the woman. However, officials noted that the complaint lacks clarity. They said scientific verification is required to confirm whether the voice belongs to Mamkootathil and to identify the other person involved.
Lack of details in complaint
Police said that the complaint does not specify the identity of the woman, or when and where the alleged incident took place. The complaint was filed based on media reports, prompting police to seek legal opinion before proceeding further.
Parallel complaint with child rights commission
Lawyer Shinto Sebastian has also filed a complaint with the Child Rights Commission on the matter.
