Kochi: A fishing boat was completely destroyed in a fire at Kalamukku harbour in Vypin, near Kochi, on Sunday. Officials from the Fire and Rescue Services confirmed that no casualties were reported.
The vessel, identified as Aroghya Anna, belonged to a resident of Colachel in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari district. It was docked at the harbour when the fire broke out.
According to officials, the blaze is suspected to have been triggered by a gas leak while workers on board were cooking. A preliminary inquiry suggests the fire started suddenly, but all workers managed to escape unharmed.
Firefighters reached the spot promptly and brought the flames under control. The quick response of nearby workers also helped prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent boats, officials said.
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
