Kozhikode: The first death anniversary of MP Veerendra Kumar, who was a great presence as a friend, writer, cultural worker, politician, environmental and human right activist and Managing Director of Mathrubhumi, will be observed on Friday adhering to the Covid restrictions. The event of remembrance will be held online.
The programmes are scheduled in two session. The event on the subject 'Veerendra Kumar, a politican and a friend' will take place at 12 pm. Veerendra Kumar's son and incumbent Managing Director of Mathrubhumi MV Shreyams Kumar will deliver the welcome speech. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will deliver keynote address. Opposition Leader V D Satheesan, MP Abdusamad Samadani, former union minister O Rajagopal, CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran and Socialist leader and social worker Manju Mohan will speak remembering Veerendra Kumar.
The commemorative events scheduled at 4 in the evening is based on the topic 'Veerendra Kumar a multi-hued genius'. Mathrubhumi Chairman and Managing Editor P V Chandran will deliver welcome speech. Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan will give the keynote address. Gopal Krishna Gandhi, who is the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and Rajagopalachari, and also former Indian High Commissioner to South Africa, former Governor of West Bengal; Sunita Narain, environmentalist and editor of Down to Earth magazine; writer T Padmanabhan; integrated waste management specialist C Sreenivasan will speak at the event.
