
Kochi: The Kerala Police, on Friday, has registered a case against the central probe agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) based on the statement given by gold smuggling accused Swapna Suresh. The case was registered charging offences of conspiracy. Swapna had alleged that ED officials forced her to give false statement against the chief minister.
Non-bailable offences of conspiracy, threatening and forcing to submit false statement were charged in the FIR.
Earlier, the statements of 18 persons including Swapna Suresh were recorded as part of the probe conducted by crime branch. Following this, state home department secretary obtained legal advice that case can be registered against ED.
It has been decided to form a special team of crime branch for further investigation.
Female police officers, Siji Vijayan of Palarivattom police station and S Rejimol of Kadavanthra police station, also had given statement that ED compelled Swapna to give false statement against CM during interrogation. The FIR against ED was filed also based on this.
