Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Police has issued a warning about a scam where fraudsters send fake messages claiming that a fine has been imposed on vehicle and attempt to extort money.
The latest trick involves sending WhatsApp messages stating that a fine is due for the vehicle. These messages appear to come from the Motor Vehicles Department and will contain your vehicle number and other personal details. Along with the message, there will be a fake app or link under the name "Parivahan." Clicking on this link can result in loss of money.
The police have warned the public not to respond to such messages.
If you fall victim to online financial fraud, report it immediately to 1930 within an hour (GOLDEN HOUR) to increase the chances of recovering the lost amount. Complaints can also be registered on the website www.cybercrime.gov.in, the police added.
